Signs have been installed at entryways to the Township.

This project was undertaken by the Environmental Commission and costs of each sign were offset by the sponsorship of local businesses.

A recent study showed that 1/3 of wells tested for arsenic in Alexandria Township was above acceptable limits. Have your well water tested and remediate if necessary.

We had a great presentation at our October 2009 Environmental Commission meeting from the DEP representative Dr. Steven Spayd; a Hydro geologist with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Steven spoke about water quality, the Private Well Testing Act (PWTA) and the impacts of data from 2002-2007 for Alexamdria Township. Statistics from the study revealed the following:

  • Volatile Organics 0/285 = 0%
  • Nitrate 2/285 = 1%
  • Gross Alpha 3/185 = 2%
  • Arsenic 64/218 = 29%

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection puts Alexandria Township in Tier 1 for potential radon danger (High Potential - at least 25 homes tested with 25 percent or more having radon concentrations greater that or equal to 4 pCi/L). Information on testing and mitigation can be found on their site: http://www.nj.gov/dep/rpp/radon/radontes.htm
